Navigation

In answer to the, by now quite pressing, question of whether I expected my 16 year old niece to be able to navigate me round Bordeaux, the answer has to be yes! I wasn't expecting her to take the place of a Sat Nav system, with a sweet voice which doesn't break into a scream when the turning is missed - "No, I said LEFT, you moron!". All I expected her to do was be able to tell me which road number we were heading for. She took a wild stab in the dark, and we ended up having to stop in a petrol station to ask the, probably long-suffering, chap for directions. However, I always feel that an extra half hour spent in Bordeaux can't be a bad thing, don't you?

So, Camping Le Truc Vert! Hmmm - the jury's out on this one. The first time I was here, it was September, and we were told we could camp wherever we wanted, which meant that we chose something close, but not too close, to the facilities (you really don't want to be trekking for hours to have a wee) and had a pleasant stay. We came again a few years ago (4?) and were sternly escorted to our assigned camping place - OK, it was the middle of the season, and a good deal more busy. This time, we were, again, escorted to our place, but on arrival, found that every time the wind blew from the south west, there's a nasty stench of sewage. Unfortunately, on complaining to the lady in the reception, we were told that she's not going to re-arrange the whole camp site for us. We'd only asked if we could scooch up a couple of spaces, but we have been assured that people have booked them, and there will be NO scooching! A bit of a mixed bag, as the girls tell me that the facilities are really very clean, so we can't work out where the sewage smell is coming from.

Well, we're off to see if the bar/disco is worth looking at.
