The day, I have to mention, did not start well. I was just finishing up a shower when Charlotte came in to tell me that we've been told that our pitch is to be doubled up! You can only imagine my horror! I quickly checked the site map on the side of the facilitiesl, learning what I thought I knew - our site is labelled from the edge of the site to the road just in front of the loos. I gathered up my troops, intent on a goodly assault of the reception. As it happened, when we got there, discretion over came me (or possibly cowardice) and I sent Emma in to complain. She is definitely her mother's daughter, and in no time we'd been told that it was a mistake, and we could keep out pitch. I'm extremely sorry for the new Germans who have moved into a doubled up pitch beside us, as they have quite a substantial tent, and have been forced into a tiny little place which is completely unsuitable for it. What makes it worse is that there are many empty pitches still available all round the site, and yet all the pitches to our right have been doubled up, meaning that the road is jammed with cars, as each pitch now has at least 2 cars attached to it, but now there is no where for them to be parked. However sorry I am for the people coming onto the site from now, I'm very pleased that we have managed to retain our whole pitch.
However, back to the deserted shore. In true Robinson Crusoe style, we scavenged wood and built a fire (although this was a little tricky with the wind), starting with pine cones and small twigs. In moments we had a huge blaze, as we fed the greedy flames with more and more wood. Our harpoons sharpened and all hoping to spear a fish to roast over the open fire, we were disappointed! Since Zoe and I wouldn't let the children into the water, we had to make do with marshmallows. After a few marshmallows, all the children went scouring the beach for more wood to burn, flinging logs and branches into the blaze, and scattering us with sand in the process.
A moment of sheer awesome fell just before the sun set, when Christoph presented me with a not-very-cold beer!
Oh, and I did get a few pictures of the sunset.
