Shopping and School Marms

No mountains :( I'm quite sad about this, but the girls are all very happy to stay here, because they really like their new friends so much. Emma is happy because she's meeting new people too, and while I'm sorry we wont be going to the mountains, I'm pleased that we're able to continue the relaxation. It's a complete change to just stay in the same place for the whole holiday!

The decision to stay at the beach was taken this morning when I awoke to find Lizzy quietly crying, and telling me that she just isn't ready to leave her new friends just yet. A discussion ensued, and we finally decided to stay here until next Wednesday, before heading back North for Sara's place, and then on to Calais on Thursday.

Unfortunately, although this decision was easily taken within the family, I was completely taken aback by the rudeness I experienced when talking to the lady at the reception - you'll remember I've already been on the receiving end of her rudeness when we chose to complain about the smell of sewage earlier this week. I felt as if I'd been called in to see the headmistress of a particularly strict boarding school, to receive a dressing down about a prank which had gone wrong! I was emphatically told that if I say I'm leaving on the 17th, then that's when I must leave, and on my, possibly slightly flippant, suggestion that they just pretend that I'd arrived, and see if pitch 41 was open for a few more days, I received a look which should have struck me down where I stood, along with an insistance that I was EXTREEMLY lucky to be able to keep the pitch, because normally they would have booked someone into it, and if someone's booked a pitch, they expect that space. It has to be said that I can't remember the last time I was dressed down in public!

This afternoon, Lottie, Lizzy and I went via boat across the basin to Arcachon, with Zoe, Christoph and the girls. It was supposed to be a shopping trip, in the hope of procuring some nice clothes for the girls, but Arcachon is a very expensive town, so we bought ice-cream instead! I bet you didn't know you can get bubble-gum flavour ice-cream!
